The Bronze Star is awarded to any person in any branch of military service who, while serving in any capacity with the armed forces of the United States on or after December 7, 1941, who distinguish himself by heroic or meritorious achievement or service, (although not for aerial flight).

This decoration was authorized in February 1944.
